That’s a moth that looks and moves like a hummingbird. They absolutely love Mexican Primroses.

The “Sphinx” is one of the Iberian groups most beautiful moths. Many have a similar flight of a hummingbird, and fed similarly, no beak, but with a very long proboscis and in flight. The best known is the hummingbird sphinx (Macroglossum stellatarum) which also flies by day, in the afternoon.

Los esfíngidos son uno de los grupos ibéricos de mariposas nocturnas más bonitos. Muchas tienen un vuelo similar al de un colibrí, y se alimentan de forma similar, sin pico, pero con una probóscide muy larga y en vuelo. La más conocida es la esfinge colibrí (Macroglossum stellatarum) que también vuela de dia, por las tardes.

I saw a creature like this one time and I didn’t know what it was! I was thinking a hummingbird or moth at the time. By reading what other’s have said I’m pretty sure it’s a very strange moth.

luckityduckity, i must say you have no room to talk, calling these people idiots. they are right. i work at an insectarium and aquarium and i most certainly know that this is a moth. i know its hard to believe because of its wings, but believe it or not, you dont know everything! and actually, moths arent MOSTLY all brown. they are more beautiful than butterflies.

It is called a hummingbird moth. They use their straw type nose to get the nectar from the centre of the flowers. We get them in our garden and have seen them on holidays
